Conner Middle
School is located in Hebron, Kentucky which is
approximately 10 miles south of Cincinnati, Ohio. As
part of the Boone County School System, Conner serves as
one of five public middle schools for the district. CMS
has a strong history of academic achievement and stands
as one of only five middle schools in the state of
Kentucky that has achieved state testing goals for the
past sixteen school years.
The Conner Middle
School Band and Orchestra Programs consist of 300
students in grades 6 through 8. Our students participate
in all grade level bands and orchestras, and have
opportunities to perform in jazz ensemble, percussion
ensemble, pep band, clarinet choir, and other small
instrumental groups throughout the year. The Bands have
received consistent distinguished ratings at the
Kentucky Music Educators Concert Band Festivals
throughout the past 40 years. The 8th grade band was
invited to perform at the 2006 University of Kentucky
Middle School Band Invitational in Lexington, KY. The
2006, 2007, and 2008 Bands were also noted as earning Exemplary
Performance Awards in the District 6 Large Ensemble
Festival Assessments. Most recently, the Symphonic Band
was invited to perform at the 2008
Kentucky Music
Educator's Association State In-Service Conference in
Louisville, KY.

received superior ratings at the Kings Island Concert
Band Festival and Conner jazz bands have earned
distinguished ratings at the Northern Kentucky and Boone
County Jazz Festivals. The jazz band was one of the
featured groups at the 2006 Jazz Night Festival along
with the University of Kentucky Jazz Ensemble. The band
has marched in parades, such as “Band Night” that was
formerly held at Boone County High School. As a junior

addition to having students selected to participate in
the Kentucky All-State Band, Northern Kentucky Select
Bands, and numerous honor bands held at Eastern Kentucky
University, Asbury College, and Morehead State

6th Grade
Beginning Band
This year, the 6th grade band is comprised of students
from our four feeder elementary schools. Students have a
basic understanding of music through elementary general
music courses and have already been taught basic forms,
analysis, musical terms, notes, and rhythms. These
students are split into two periods during our scheduled
day. They participate in our winter concert, our spring
concert, KMEA Festival Assessment, and a tour of our
feeder elementary schools in the spring.

grade, students then advance to 7th grade concert band.
This band will perform music ranging from grades 1 1/2
to grade 2+. Performance opportunities include the
winter concert, spring concert, and the KMEA Festival

Spring Concert, KMEA Preview Concert, KMEA Festival
Assessment, and any performance which requires an
